Formula

Tip is a percentage of the bill. Each displayed money value is rounded to the nearest cent from the raw (unrounded) figure — the total is not the rounded tip added back to the price.

raw tip          = price × (rate ÷ 100)
tip              = round to cents(raw tip)
total            = round to cents(price + raw tip)
tip per person   = round to cents(raw tip ÷ people)
total per person = round to cents((price + raw tip) ÷ people)
Split per-person amounts from the unrounded totals. Rounding the tip first and then dividing can be a cent off when the raw tip ends in a half-cent, such as 15% of $66.70.

Half-cent split on $66.70

15% of $66.70 is a raw tip of $10.005, which rounds to $10.01. Split two ways from the unrounded figures: $5.00 tip each and $38.35 each.
