Find cubic yards from a rectangle, circle, triangle, known area, or existing volume. Add quantity and waste, select a material density, and estimate weight, bags, truck loads, and cost.
Formula
rectangle area = length × width
circle area = π × (diameter ÷ 2)²
triangle area = base × height ÷ 2
cubic feet = area in ft² × depth in ft × quantity
cubic yards = cubic feet ÷ 27
order amount = cubic yards × (1 + waste% ÷ 100)
Weight is order volume × the selected bulk density. Bag count always rounds up to a whole bag; truck loads remain fractional so you can discuss delivery size with the supplier.
Examples
20 × 10 feet at 6 inches
The base volume is 100 ft³, or 3.704 yd³. With 10% waste, order about 4.07 cubic yards.
10-foot circle at 4 inches
The volume is about 0.970 cubic yards before waste.
